I have been a New York Yankees fan since I was able to understand the sport of baseball. I started off watching the game with my dad when I was very young. My favorite players were Jeter, Rodriguez, Rivera, and Posada. These players were great and I looked up to them. Watching the games on television at home was fun but when I was able to go to the stadium, it was awesome. I have been to a lot of games at the old stadium before they took it down and some at the new stadium. I went to the stadium for opening day for the very first game which was sweet. If you have not been to the new stadium, I recommend that you take a trip there to see how different it is.
The Yankees have been apart of my life since I was in Little League Baseball. My first team I played for was the New York Yankees. This is probably one of the reasons why I support them today because looking back it is very cool and ironic that I played on that team. I was able to meet some Yankee players up close and personal. I was able to meet Phil Hughes and get my Yankee hat from my first year of little league signed by him. It was so cool at the time because it felt like a super-star was talking to me and was signing something I had. There is a memory that I have from when I was in third grade when the Yankees were versing the Red Sox in the old stadium. We were of course in the Yankees fan section with all of the fans. Since they were winning, I got out of my seat, turned around and screamed "Boston Sucks" right as they struck out to end the inning. Everyone in the stands was laughing and started cheering.
Being a fan of the New York Yankees is such a great feeling. Growing up I have seen so many players come and go on this team. I own a lot of merchandise such as hats, shirts, and jackets. Representing that I am a Yankee fan out in public is a great feeling because they are a well known team with so many World Series wins. Years ago, I went out as a Yankee player for Halloween, but not just any player. I went out as Derek Jeter because he is one of the greatest shortstop players in the Major Leagues. While walking around and going to peoples doorsteps, it was hard not to hear good remarks about him as a player, either that they loved the Yankees too or they were a big Jeter supporter. It is such a great feeling knowing that when people saw me wearing that jersey, they brightened up because they knew that he was going to be a Hall Of Fame baseball player. I have many decorations in my room such as posters and signs of Jeter and the stadium along with many more decorations. Living in Maryland now, it is not as common to find many Yankee fans down here since we are in the home of the Orioles, so I still need to represent my home team during the on season and even the off season.
If you are a supporter of the New York Yankees, there is no room to become upset or disappointed. Over the years of cheering them on and following them has always been a pleasure and enjoyable. I can remember this like it was yesterday. Back when I was six, and I went to the Yankee vs. Red Sox game hosted at Old Yankee Stadium. A friend of mine and both of our dads came to the game with us since we were all Yankee fans. The Yankees ended up winning the game by a long shot which was a great way to end the game and the day. There is never a dull moment when the Boston Red Socks lose to their rivals.
Growing up, I would always get engaged with the Yankees and watch them with my grandpa. Living in New Jersey, the Yankees were the main team to watch since we both enjoyed them a lot. Late nights of watching the game and staying up to see who was going to win was such a great memory to have. Close games made the adrenaline run faster and faster throughout the body. Even today, when I visit during the baseball season, I continue to make memories as we get together and watch the game to enjoy what these professional players are going to do to make not just us pleased, but every Yankee supporter proud.
